Team... Together Everyone Achieves More Unknown |
Our achievements so far . . . . - 2024 Once the group was formed in 1999, we embarked on a complete assessment of the church buildings and determined that the first priorities had to be the installation of two new electrical distribution boxes and the repair and redecoration of many areas of plasterwork on the church walls, We then turned our attention to the provision of a disabled toilet in the vestry for church members and visitors and helped with the replacement of the church footpath, steps and light columns. The re-ordering of the entrance porch to give level access and the installation of a stone ramp and associated joinery works followed before we moved on to the transformation of the South Transept into a quiet chapel. Friends have also supported urgent repairs to parts of the church flooring, the hinges on the main entrance door, parts of the heating system, exterior painting and twice- yearly gutter cleaning, More recently, members have met half the cost of providing a completely new lighting system throughout the building and have enabled major and minor repairs to various parts of the stonework - a project that will continue for the next 20 years. The memorial display cabinet in the porch has now been refurbished. Now completed is the instalation of bronze safety bars to the castleation stonework on the tower roof. This will enable tower trips to be re-introduced/ After the pandemic it came to light that one of the Oak bellframe beams was starting to rot, so plans were put in place to have it replaced, at the same time the clock had started to loose more time and was not striking properly, so plans were made to have a total refurbishment of both the clock workings and the clock faces. Eventually after eighteen months of waiting both projects are now complete. Plans are now under way to have more toilets installed, by reducing the size of the vestry and installing two new additional toilets, as well as more storage cupboard space, The erection of an external binstore. The refurbishment of the Lych gate roof, and help create a Heritage centre within the North Transept.
